The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which functions to preserve the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was given the prize on 16 October as his third album the album was named the best record of the last 12 months.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the shows I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," said Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports local stages.

Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported locations that were facing imminent closure due to challenges arising from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in large arenas helps the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

In the band earned the trophy in the mid-90s for their album their work, lead singer the singer stated that the act would contribute their cash to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty among multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," the artist shared with the media.

In recent years, the band gave their prize money to the community center that nurtured their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," said singer Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had rescued several local spots in the South East, by placing them under local control.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in that location were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
